Get ready to break on through to the other side! Atari and Choice Provisions (the folks behind BIT.TRIP) have announced Breakout Beyond, a vibrant reimagining of the classic brick-breaking series. Coming to Switch and other platforms later this year, this new entry in the Breakout universe will challenge players to not just clear bricks, but to creatively smash their way through with score-building combos.
Sideways Smashing and Co-op Chaos
Forget breaking bricks from the bottom up; Breakout Beyond flips the script (literally!) with a sideways perspective. Players progress by breaking through barriers and building combos that ramp up the intensity and effects, rewarding skilled players with a dazzling light show. Special blocks offer powerful advantages, including massive brick-clearing blasts, a protective shield, and even a laser cannon!
72 Levels of Brick-Breaking Bliss (or Frustration)
With 72 challenging levels, your brick-blasting skills will be put to the test. But you don’t have to face the challenge alone! Team up with a friend for local two-player co-op and tackle the mayhem together. Or, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, a new focus mode slows down time, sacrificing score for greater control.
From Amico Exclusive to Multi-Platform Mayhem
Originally planned as an Amico Intellivision exclusive, Atari has stepped in to acquire and complete development. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring this gem to our players,” says Ethan Stearns, Senior Director of Games Publishing at Atari. “The team thought it was a brilliant concept, preserving the heart of Breakout’s gameplay while also giving the formula a completely new spin.
